Moving on from things is usually pretty hard. Building a little ritual around the affair and elisting the help or witness of friends helps, and is usually the right sort of thing to do.

We burned some old stuff outside, in our graveyard for the chickens and the ducks, eventually for the dogs and maybe for ourselves. Burned a bit of incense inside and moved furniture around and well and truly it feels different than it did.

I milled plenty of cherry today into 3/4” thick, 3’ long, and 2 1/4” wide planks. I plan to laminate them together into the posts of a over large built in bench and book shelf, the sort of thing I expect to stick around for some time. I can already feel the mistakes I’ll complain about, and I hope I can look forward to the charm of it, too.

The building of that thing feels slow, a lot slower than burning some paper, but I think it ushers in a new feeling too, more than it ushers one out, anyways.
