Burlington
I went to Burlinton today, and I think my mom saw a bank robbery in progress.
Politics and economics and crime statistics are strange things. We can read about them on the new websites or on blogs or we can chat about them on Reddit or Instagram, and it’s all bullshit. The algorithm promotes not truth, but what gets more reads, and that tends to be negative things.
I am aware of that bias, certainly. I try to correct for it. The economy can’t be so bad...though groceries do seem awfully expensive and all of our clients are acting pretty weird. Climate change might not be SO much of a disaster at this very moment, though it was 80 degrees last week, in October. Crime can’t be so bad but...my friends car did get broken into and my mom walked into a bank robbery today...
Things don’t seem great, and personal experience does appear to be bearing that out. I was listening to a book that called our day and age the “quivering” twenties, and that seems right.
I wonder a lot about what Roby’s years will be like. I hope that this place I’m making for her will be good for her. That’s all that matters.
