The Great Clown Pagliacci
I got a microphone for Christmas. The big kind that people who play videogames professionally use, or jerks who rate horror movies on a big ol’ piece of foam core 1-10. I’ve been told I ought to make podcasts by a few people. I’ve even made plans to actually do it with a few of those people, but nothing ever materialized. Sound engineering is intimidating, but trying to cook up something worth listening to is intimidatinger.
Last Impressions is the earliest podcast concept. I believe it was Jack’s idea to watch the final episodes of long-running anime series, the worse the better. They’re all incredibly trite denouement for a full thirty minutes, give or take. When you don’t know the characters it’s something between a highschool renunion, community improv, and speed-dating. It’s horrible, and hilarious.
The other idea for a podcast I’ve had didn’t ever find a name, I don’t think. A friend of mine named JD Thompson wanted to discuss different works of mainstream media and how they relate to politics and social systems. Why are the good guys in Star Wars consdiered good when they’re fighting to reinstitute a caste-based theocracy, et cetera. JD and I believe that our 2 and 3 hour long phonecalls are compelling enough to warrant a podcase. Jury’s out on that one.
I’d like to actually do this podcast thing and if doing this blog thing has shown me anything it’s that KISS is king
(keep It Simple Stupid, for those of you who never went to summercamp.)
Every day, short and sweet, about anything at all, off the dome. A podcast, what with the writing, recording, editing, uploading, is a bit of a different thing. I don’t think I could do it every day, and I don’t think anyone would really go for that. Reading this all the time is already a task. It’s one thing to go back and read seven blog posts at a time, and it’s quite another to listen to seven hours of podcast. It’s a lot harder to skim a podcast.
In anycase, the approach I’d like to take for this new year is still writing a short bit each day. But I want to introduce more fiction into the mix. So I think it’ll be on and off fiction-blog-fiction-blog-fiction-blog-et-cetera, with a weekly podcast...but what about?!
