February & March

I’ve debated about which month is worse, February or March. By the time February rolls around you’ve been in the dark for a while, and you’ve been cold, too. You’re in deep winter and it can start to feel like it. Given that logic it might seem like March would just be worse, you’ve just experienced another month of deep winter, isn’t that just worse? Well, yes. But after March comes April, and while it isn’t exactly balmy in Vermont, it’s not March. The only thing that comes after February is March.

March has hope, a light at the end of the tunnel. And damnit, that’s a fine, fine thing.

It’s feeling an awful lot like February today, and Plainfield is feeling an awful lot like Plainfield. Our housemate Hanna moved out and that means we’ll have to begin actually putting in work to cultivate a social life.

Up until now we’ve had people in our house, and that has fulfilled the better part of our social needs. Now we’re alone in the house and we don’t live within walking distance of anybody. Maybe once our neighbor’s kid is a bit older that’ll be a bit more of a thing, but right now she can’t walk, and neither can Robinia.

There’s the library and the café, and we do have a few friends. We’ll just have to be more concerted in our efforts to spend time with people other than ourselves.

Luckily, Jack and Elena moved back today, too.
Doors opening and closing,
et cetera.
