Summer

I’m not done repairing the trousers in that photo. They’ve had a big hole in the knee and a bigger hole in the butt since right around when this picture was taken. I doubt I’ll have the time to sort it by the time summer rolls around. Maybe if I use a sewing machine, which is the only sane way to take care of tear that big across the seat. Sashiko’d just be annoying, like holding the thing together with a thousand safety pins, it lacks the robust feeling you want out of a seat repair.

One of the first things Abby and I noticed about living in the country and having a bit of land is the manic feeling of spring and summer. After months of staring out at your monochrome land, unable to dig a hole, sometimes unable to pry apart boards for the ice, there’s a thrilling hunger to do everything at once.

I’m excited for that time of year. As I’ve written here several times, my list is about as long as my arm, and getting longer all the time. More than just being excited to get the things done, I’m looking forward to, as Abby calls it, putzing. Just wearing a t-shirt and shorts, walking about the land looking for things to do and doing them. Picking up sticks, mowing the lawn, carrying stones, being on my computer outside.

I’d like to build a little screened-in spot with a nice view where I can setup a computer, I think that’d be fun and a bit funny. Pretty impressive background, that.

Another thing for the list.
