Romance is a funny one.

For a long time I thought relationships were almost pre ordained; they work or they don’t, and most of the time you can tell quite quickly. It’s almost chemical.

Then for a while I thought relationships were purely a notion of work. They succeed in direct proportion to how much work and patience has been put in.

Now I’m somewhere in the middle, as often happens. I do think there’s something to the chemistry. Some relationships are destined, as by stars, to be beautiful, and others are doomed to heart break, or at least ache.

But beyond that, you’ve got to put in the work, too.

You’ve gotta get lucky, and you’ve got work ahead of you.

Sounds a lot like success in work, or art, or virtually anything in this life.
Life, like most things, is about maintenance. This sort of thing, as opposed to trucks or furnaces, is the sort of thing I like to work on and think about and polish.
