Nostalgia & Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan is the most nostalgic music for me, I think. Particularly The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan. I guess it’s because my dad used to play it all the time and he’d wax poetic about how good and important it is, because it is good, and it is important, even if that’s mostly because dads talk about it that way.

Ever since I heard Frankie Cosmos sing dont think twice it’s all right by bubdylon I’ve thought it was potentially the greatest cover of all time. Sadly Frankie is no longer sixteen and recording offhanded albums in her bedroom so the ship has sailed on her recording an entire cover-album of The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan. That would have been phenomenal

I like a good ode, I like an appreciation of things that are good.

I can’t recall where I first heard it, I think it was Kurt Vonnegut, but googling it returns no corroboration. It was something along the lines of how we have an easy time making note of when things are bad, but not really when they’re good. When they’re really good, we do. When we’re on vacation or we’ve gotten a raise, then we’ll call out how good things are. But on the day to day? Not nearly enough.

For a few years I used to do just that pretty often. Going on a walk with a friend: This is nice. Eating a burger: This is nice. I ought to do it again.

Every day’s an ode, an old favorite back again.
