Babies
All the women in this photograph have since given birth, and each of the babies in their bellies got to meet together, out in the air, for the first time today at the baby shower of another baby who’s still in a belly.
The baby shower was for girls only, so I was only there at the beginning and the end. But in those brief glimpses I saw funny little memories, promising ones of potential distant friendships.
If any of those babies end up being friends, and I hope they do, I think it’ll be tender for there to be photographs of their long time friends, as babies, napping or playing, or farting at their very own baby shower.
These are the sorts of relationships and friendships I have none of, but aspire towards. Even if the friendship isn’t so deep, it has got a span to it, and that counts for a lot, more than I might’ve realized when I was younger.
