Working For A Living

I’m being told some people work for a living. I just spent the past two days, every part of each of them, putting up drywall, framing in windows, and thinking about stairs, but mostly the first one. I also cut a hole in my ceiling/floor. I took a break to eat lunch and I stopped at supper time to eat and drink beer and watch the Matrix. My Father in law had never seen the Matrix, lucky bastard.

I’m tired and my foot hurts. My nose is clogged from at least seven (7) different types of dust and I can feel my right shoulder more acutely than my left. To think that some people are carpenters, and that others do drywall, and still others are in demolition. It’s astonishing.

I’m sure it gets easier, but really, how much easier could it get? You’re still using a crow bar and pulling apart mouse crap and insulation.

While I’m enjoying myself, it is simultaneously giving me a new lease on the cerebral work I do for my day job. I get to think all day, and persuade people of things. There’s something to be said for that kind of work: it hurts my back less.
