Cursing
Stephen King has a particular fondness for villains that don’t curse. I’m not sure what that’s about. Big Jim of Under The Dome as well as the nightmarish nurse Annie Wilkes of Misery fame both refrain from cursing. They both institute childish immitations of cursing, calling things clusterfudges and cotton-pickin’ no good whosamawhat’sit’s.
I personally have been trying and failing to curse less for some time now, Abby and me both. There is something obviously horrible about using swear words. It’s childish, rude, and implies a lack of creativity.
I don’t believe that on the flip side not swearing implies much of anything, really. That being said, a person that behaves in a violent of profane way but does not swear...it feels off. Further, if they behave in a bestial way and take pride in their not using profanity, well, that’s just icky.
Mostly I don’t want Roby growing up in a house that swears. It’s something I have control over. It’s a small good that I can take on that harms no body and costs nothing. It is purely good.
Though I guess my street cred will lose some value, or something.
