ALIEN
Instead of doing something productive I stayed up and watched Alien Romulus, it was good. I love a good sci fi movie, and one in the Alien series is even better. This one does some really lovely world building of the hyper-capitalist corpo-fascist hellscape that is the Alien universe and I really appreciated that. It’s hinted at in Alien 3 and it’s a pretty clear undertone/background in all the rest of the films, but they give it a pretty compelling face in this one.
I tried watching the new Dune television show and hooo boy, it starts out with about 10 minutes of exposition and I just cannot cotton to exposition. If I wanted someone to just describe what was happening or what had happened I’d read a novel from forty years ago, not watch a TV show. It was weird and embarassing. Who greenlights this stuff? Who looks at the scripts and says yes?
I might go on to wonder who looks at that crap after spending what must be millions of dollars on it and says it’s good? But of course if you’ve spent millions you might have something like buyers remorse. Anyways the show was bad, I made it about 30 seconds past the exposition and shut it off. I think we watche Elf instead.
Elf has some exposition, but it’s a Christmas movie, a tale. Now that’s a good flick, it really holds up.
