Egg & Photography
My tenants came by last night to show me some old film cameras. They know I know some about photoraphy so they were interested to learn how they work, and if they might be decent options for making a few pictures. They were all automatic cameras and would indeed take nice enough pictures for them. It took only a few seconds to explain as they had about five or six buttons between them.
That done I figured they might want to know more about photography in general, and in something like the beginning of depth. So I explained about F-stops and aperture and film speed and push and pull processing and all that.
I wondered then how I had come ot know all of this about film and photography and cameras. The answer is a lot of practice and also youtube. I didn’t read many books, I learned from friends and I learned from youtube.
I saw in their eyes a glaze that I’ve just begun to cultivate in mine own eyes. I’ve begun to watch some youtube videos about icon painting and egg tempera and sketching and medieval art making, and I went into an art store today, too. The purveyor asked me if I was a masochist for wanting to learn how to do egg tempera. It was finnacky he said, tempermental too, and no, they didn’t sell any.
It’s not very popular.
So, exactly the sort of thing I’m ripe to get into.
