Jack once mused about the folks who act all impressed by his drawing ability: sure, it’s impressive, but would you trade fully 1/5th of your experience for this? Because that’s about how much time it takes. While you were out making memories or spending time with friends, I was /studyingtheblade/ learning to draw.
Now I look down at my paltry sketchbook, I look back at my paltry memories, and I wish my sketchbook were better.
The best time to plant a tree...
I’ve spoken at length with friends about how I enjoy being bad at things, or at least, I can see the beauty in being a fool. Hopefully I can keep that feeling going for...the rest of my life?
After making these laser engraved icons it feels clear that they are not alive, and they never will be. That’s the goal with icon painting, or making, or writing, to create something living. To deepen your relationship with God through making, and to produce something that continues that deepening for the viewer(s).
It just feels like a nice way to spend time, Good even, it might have a capital G.
