Phones
My Cousin and her son, my second cousin, visited Plainfield today. It was nice to see her, and to meet him for the first time since he wasn’t a baby. He’s 14 and lives in Florida. It’s fascinating to talk to him about what it’s like to be 14 and to live in Florida in 2024. He seems to enjoy it well enough.
I offered him the wifi password and he said that was alright, he didn’t have a phone anyways.
He explained that he was a bit too into his phone a few months ago and his parents said it was enough, so they took it away. He didn’t seem too broken up by it.
Any time there was drama at school it was over snapchat or something, he hadn’t been in trouble in months.
I wish I had a parent to take my phone away, I think that’d be easier than quitting it myself.
