Vermont turns to summer in starts and fits, like a car on washboards in April. It’s lots of jumping around and lots of ominousness.
The sun’ll peak out and make you sweat, clouds threatening to take that away only to burn off inches from chill.
Then it’ll be drizzling and the sun’ll wave at you but never introduce itself.

It’s going to rain for a week straight, and it already rained a little bit today. The moment of sun after supper was somthing we felt obliged to enjoy even though we mostly wanted to be inside. That’s a funny side effect of summer in Vermont, sometimes you have just got to be outside, even if you’re tired. Wasting even a moment of good sun is rude as anything. It’s as rude as can be to the place and to yourself, too.
