Being social out here requires considerably more time in the car than is entirely reasonable.

Our new friend’s new place in Cabot is about 25 minutes along the river.

Our old friends places in Burlington are about 60 minutes along the river.

I’ve been listening to a lot of audiobooks because of that. I’ve been writing a lot of posts about Stephen King because of that.

Two people now, maybe more, suggest that they’d at least like the chance to read more Stephen King, thanks to my evangelism. Pro bono advertising for one of the most popular authors in history’s a bit funny, I’ll admit.
As I’ve reflected on my capacity to get people to reconsider an oft derided author of popular fiction, it has made me consider persuasion in general. That’s what I do for work, and apparently I do it on weekends too, to my friends and assosciates, and for free no less.

What’s the difference, really, between convincing friends to read more Stephen King, and convincing someone that a certain brand ain’t so bad? I won’t suggest that marketing today is as simple as telling someone a product is good, but it’s not all that far off.

I suppose money is the difference. If Stephen King starts paying me to move some paper, we’ll have something to talk about.
