Abby and I have always had roommates. From big ol’ houses full of them to...other big ol’ houses full of slightly different housemates. We moved into this house with roommates and it is only recently that we’ve transitioned into having tenants. Mainly that means, to me, not having people in your kitchen and bathroom when you least expect it. Also, I have an office now becuase it doesn’t have someone living it with a bed and what not. 

Having tenants is a real gift, with kids it’s play time all the time, and they help us pay our mortage. 

Our friend Jamie is going to build a platform in the forest and move into it for the summer, and maybe longer. That’s a different kind of situation, because there’s no shower there. Figuring how to navigate that in a way that adds to the growing community on this property without feeling like a step backwards into roommate-ship, is a delicate thing. 

It’s going well, I think. Helps that he’s such a reasonable guy.
