I think of this photograph from time to time. I took it the first summer I got my first camera. I barely knew what I was doing and I don’t believe I developed it myself. I made Abby pull over the car so I could take it. I can’t recall if we were coming or going to the Waterbury Reservoir, our chosen swimming spot before we knew proper places.
I believe it’s one of the better images I’ve ever made.
I took a few somewhat like it today, but I can’t find the device necessary to transfer the images from my camera to my computer, and thusly from my computer to this website.
They were images of the path through the woods, and of the flat trail just down the road. The flat’s easier for Abby, it helps her back. The hills of the forest don’t do her any favors these days.
Things feel pretty normal these days. Since the folks staying with us moved back home, since the baby shower’s been finished, since the rain hasn’t stopped. It feels like we can finally start to get excited for what’s about to happen.
There might be a metaphor in that image of the road ahead, maybe.
